200 Park Avenue Custom Ipe Seating in San Jose, CA
Field Operations drew seven cantilevered benches for this San Jose office development, each one projecting from a reinforced concrete base with nothing holding up the far end. The spans push about as far as exterior wood seating can go, and getting there took some working out between us and the design team.
Ipe was the right wood for it: dense, strong, and stable enough to carry that kind of reach outdoors without complaint. The finished benches read as floating, which was the whole point.
