SWB
Seatwall Bench
The only bench in the BraunMark system that mounts directly to a seatwall. When the wall is already part of the design or already on the site, the SWB mounts on top of it. The wall carries the structural load, so there are no legs, no independent footing, and no visual interference with the seatwall geometry.
When to Specify the SWB
Specify the SWB when a seatwall is already part of the design, or when an existing seatwall needs seating added. Because the wall carries the load, the bench adds a wood seating surface without adding structure to the site.
Straight and curved configurations both follow the wall geometry, so the bench can track a radiused seatwall without compromise.
How It Mounts
Anchoring method. Drop-in anchors into the top of a flat horizontal concrete seatwall. Anchoring hardware is supplied by DM Braun.
Substrate. Precast or cast-in-place concrete seatwall, 3,000 psi minimum. Recommended minimum concrete seatwall depth is 10″.
Shipping and assembly. Backed and Backless SWB configurations ship in assembled sections with installation hardware for relatively fast installation.

Key Design Criteria
| Parameter | Limit |
|---|---|
| Seat depth | 17.5″ standard (backed); 11.5″ minimum (backless) |
| Seat length | No limit continuous; typical max 8′ per section |
| Seat height | Set by the seatwall. Specified per project. |
| Radius | Varies by board pattern. See curved configurations below. |
Three Forms
BB · Backless
Mounts directly to a flat concrete seatwall. Clean, low-profile assembly suited to sightline-sensitive applications where the wall reads as the dominant element. Available straight and curved.
BE · Backed
Full bench with integrated backrest. Comfort and permanence on a concrete seatwall. Straight configurations only. If a curved, backed configuration is desired, please reach out directly to discuss.
BRO · Backrest Only
Retrofits to an existing concrete seatwall. Uses the same engineered backrest component as the SWB-BE and CWB-BE. Straight only.
The BRO form is worth noting for renovation work. If a site already has concrete seatwalls that people sit on, the BRO adds a backrest without replacing the wall or adding a full bench.

Curved Configurations
The SWB curves. Minimum radius depends on board pattern and orientation. All values below are minimums. Specify a radius equal to or greater than the value shown.
Curved, long-axis orientation (L)
Available in profiles 22, 23, 24, and 26. For a curved bench in profile 32, use an S-orientation pattern.
| Max bench length | 22L | 23L | 24L | 26L |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ≤ 44.5″ | 5′ | 5′ | 6′ | 14′ |
| ≤ 58.5″ | 8′ | 8′ | 11′ | 22′ |
| ≤ 71.5″ | 10′ | 12′ | 16′ | N/A |
Curved, short-axis orientation (S), Method A · tapered gaps
Rectangular boards with tapered gaps, lengths measured on the inside radius edge. Often the best choice for gentle curves at larger radii.
| Profile | Minimum radius | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| 22S / 32S | 9′ | Seat depth ≤ 24″ |
| 23S | 11′ | Seat depth ≤ 24″ |
| 24S | 14′ | Seat depth ≤ 24″ |
| 26S | 20′ | Seat depth ≤ 24″ |
Curved, short-axis orientation (S), Method B · custom-milled
Trapezoidal boards with a uniform 1/2″ gap, lengths measured on the outside radius edge. Available in 24S and 26S. Often the best choice for tighter curves. Minimum outer radius equals seat depth plus one foot. An 18″ depth yields a 2.5′ minimum radius.
Materials and Finish
The SWB is the only all-stainless assembly in the BraunMark system. Every structural member is 304 stainless steel.
The reason is direct contact with concrete. DM Braun uses 304 stainless anywhere the frame bears directly on concrete, because abrasion at that interface can break down a coating over time and expose mild steel to rust. On the SWB the entire frame sits on the seatwall, so the entire frame is stainless. The same principle drives the stainless mounting plates used at the concrete interface on the CWB and GMB.
Members are brushed after fabrication to remove heat discoloration and burrs, then degreased and cleaned. Two finish options are available: brushed stainless, or powder coated.
All assembly and anchoring hardware is stainless steel.
Options
Armrests. Both types are available on the SWB. Type 1 is welded to the steel frame at the factory, fixed at frame support locations, and available on backed benches in L orientation. Type 2 mounts to the underside of the wood boards, can be located at almost any position, and is field-retrofittable.
Edge profiles. Four standard radii: 1/8″, 1/4″, 1/2″, and 3/4″. Specified on the project detail at CD phase.
Skirting. Available. Wood skirting panels cover the front face, and in some cases the rear face, of straight configurations. Available in profiles 22, 23, 24, and 26, in matching or non-matching profiles.
Specifying the SWB
Use the five-part product code through SD and DD. Example: SWB-23L-ST-BB-K is a seatwall bench, 23L board pattern, straight, backless, in Kebony.
At CDs, send dimensions, substrate conditions, and detail options. DM Braun produces the project-specific detail sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a backrest be added to an existing seatwall?
Yes. The BRO form is designed for exactly that. It retrofits to an existing concrete seatwall.
What concrete strength does the seatwall need?
3,000 psi minimum, precast or cast-in-place.
Can the SWB follow a curved seatwall?
Yes. Minimum radius depends on board pattern and orientation. See the tables above.
Is the backed configuration available curved?
No. Backed and backrest-only forms are straight only. The backless form is available curved.
A curved backed bench option is available, but falls outside of the limits of BraunMark. DM Braun can work through this with the design team as a full custom item.
Why is the SWB stainless when the other types are not?
Because the whole frame bears directly on concrete. Abrasion at a steel-to-concrete interface can wear through a coating and let mild steel rust, so DM Braun specifies 304 stainless anywhere the frame touches concrete. On the CWB and GMB only the mounting plates contact concrete, so only those plates are stainless. On the SWB the entire frame does, so the entire frame is stainless.
What finish options does the SWB come in?
Two: brushed stainless, or powder coated. Powder coat color is specified by name from the DM Braun standard color chart, with many RAL colors available as custom.
