Cantilevered Custom Ipe Seating

This new office development in San Jose, CA, features a striking series of custom Ipe seating elements designed by Field Operations and fabricated by DM Braun. The project includes seven cantilevered benches that project from a reinforced concrete base, appearing to float effortlessly above the paving below. Ipe hardwood was selected for its proven strength, natural durability, and rich finish, making it ideally suited for exterior seating in a high-use environment.

The design called for long, uninterrupted spans that push the limits of what is possible with exterior wood seating, resulting in benches that extend almost unbelievably far without visible supports. DM Braun’s expertise in custom site furniture and precision fabrication ensured the design intent was realized without compromise. The custom Ipe benches add warmth, character, and a natural finish to the contemporary campus, creating a distinctive outdoor environment that encourages use while standing as a testament to thoughtful design and craftsmanship.
